Date Event Notes/Issues
18-20 Feb UP200 dog sled race Lake Effect has volunteered but has not yet been assigned shifts. We fell off the rotation last year, and my not get placed. This item is included as a place holder. Note: If Hiawatha club is not running a related special event this year, we may run one independently. Too late to get into printed journals already, but can certainly still get in web event calendars. See AfterAction Report!

14 March International Pi Day / Einstein's Birthday

Can't believe nobody out there is doing something. Lake Effect to the rescue! Einstein was born in 1879, by the way.

11 April - 18 April

QRP ARC International 50th
Anniversary nationwide event
QRPARCI might be the oldest QRP club in the world. During their Golden Jubilee, they're trying to get stations in all 50 states to operate under their club call. Lake Effect has stepped to share the burden in Michigan with other stations and especially to represent the call during the Michgian QSO Party. Some QRPARCI info. Hank Greeb, N8XX, one of Michigan's most energetic hams, is coordinating Michigan activity on this front.

16 April Michigan QSO Party Low effort BUT relatively low participation. We have never had more than 50 QSOs during the event. Lake Effect is tagged in to represent Marquette County using the call K6JSS/8/MARQ,

13 - 15 May North Country Trail Hikers Spring 2011 Softies Hike - Safety Net Provide radio communication with large group of hikers on the North Country National Scenic Trail; provide support service as needed. See after action report.
4 June Museum Ships Weekend

Abandoned, with regret, due scheduling conflicts. We're on for next year (2012)!

4 July Marquette Independence Day Parade Low budget/low effort but a good time.

30 July Grand Island Marathon Responded to appeal for volunteers to staff the safety net for this premier marathon event on Grand Island near Munising. 500 participants. Lake Effecters staffed two aid stations.
20-21 August International Lighthouse / Lightship Weekend operating as N8L. See the Band/Ops plan. After-Action Report Operate several shifts over the weekend from the Marquette Lighthouse; sponsored by Lake Effect this year. Usually a satisfying activity.
