N8T - National Trails Day 2008 Special Event

National Trails Day is sponsored by the American Hiking Society and encourages everyone, everywhere to get out and take a hike.  There are good reasons for doing so:

First, it's fun.
Second, it's good for you.
Third, it's seriously about promoting awareness of the condition of the land resources about us.  Changes in conditions will be noticed first by active users of our land resources - hikers, bikers, bird watchers, kayakers, campers - and it's critical to the preservation of our natural resources in the longer term that citizens take an active role in monitoring their health.

The National Trails System is...

...the network of scenic, historic, and recreation trails created by the National Trails System Act of 1968. These trails provide for outdoor recreation needs, promote the enjoyment, appreciation, and preservation of open-air, outdoor areas and historic resources, and encourage public access and citizen involvement.

Lake Effect is coordinating this event with the North Country Trail Hiker's club of Marquette County.  NCTH will be leading hikes into the Little Garlic Falls from the parking lot for the Elliot-Donnely Wilderness, about 12 miles up County Road 550 from  the Tourist Park trailhead north of Marquette

We will be operating from the North Country Trail at the parking lot. Participation in the event is open without regard to club affiliation or license class, and unlicensed individuals are encouraged to stop in and get on the air with a control operator.

Get out!  Take a Hike!
